Ndume Hails Troops After Rescue of 12 Abducted Borno Girls
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has commended troops of Operation Hadin Kai for successfully rescuing 12 girls abducted in Mussa community of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The girls, who were seized by insurgents while working on farmlands earlier in the week, were freed during a coordinated military operation that tracked the kidnappers to their hideout. Security sources confirmed that the troops acted on timely intelligence and moved swiftly, leading to the safe recovery of all victims. Ndume, who represents Borno South in the Senate, praised the military for what he described as “professionalism, courage, and commitment to protecting vulnerable communities.” He urged the Federal Government to continue supporting frontline troops with the resources needed to sustain the momentum against insurgents. According to local officials, the rescued girls have been taken to a medical facility for examination and trauma care before reuniting with their families. Community leaders in Mussa also expressed relief, noting that recent attacks on farmers have heightened fear as the harvest season peaks. The rescue comes amid renewed concerns over increased insurgent activity in farming areas across the Northeast. Ndume reiterated his call for enhanced intelligence gathering, better equipment for troops, and stronger community–military collaboration to prevent further abductions. The senator emphasized that securing rural communities remains critical to restoring full economic activity in Borno, adding that no progress can be sustained without safety for farmers who contribute significantly to the state’s food supply. Authorities say operations are ongoing to track down the remaining members of the group responsible for the abduction.
