Minister Keyamo to Honour 40 Aviation Legends as Nigeria Marks 100 Years of Aviation
Nigeria is set to celebrate a historic milestone as the country marks 100 years of aviation, with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, announcing plans to honour 40 outstanding figures whose contributions helped shape the nation’s aviation industry.
The minister disclosed that the honorees referred to as “Legends of Aviation” include early pioneers, visionary administrators, renowned pilots, air traffic controllers, engineers, and other trailblazers who played crucial roles in building Nigeria’s aviation sector from its inception to its present status.
Keyamo said the centennial celebration, scheduled for Monday, will feature a national event dedicated to recognising these men and women for their decades of service, innovation, and leadership.
“This milestone gives us a unique opportunity to celebrate a century of courage, innovation, and transformative contributions that have shaped the Nigerian aviation landscape,” Keyamo stated. “These individuals will be celebrated for their exceptional contributions, sacrifices, and leadership across decades.”
According to him, the recognition is not just about honouring the past but also inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals as Nigeria enters a new phase of growth in air transport and aerospace development.
The centenary event is expected to bring together industry stakeholders, aviation veterans, government officials, and international partners, highlighting the progress Nigeria has made and the opportunities ahead for a more modern, efficient, and competitive aviation ecosystem.
