PDP Lacking Leadership, Direction,.May go Extinct

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has delivered a scathing assessment of the current state of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), warning of a looming crisis spurred by recent comments made by Governor Nyesom Wike.

Speaking in an interview, Fayose painted a picture of a fractured party lacking direction and leadership, characterized by internal power struggles and a disregard for established norms.

Fayose began by emphasizing his commitment to speaking truth, stating his duty is “to be able to do or say what is right.” He declared he will not “watch, pray for the governors, neither will I watch, pray for Governor Wike,” highlighting his disillusionment with the current leadership.

He lamented the lack of reconciliation within the party, stating the problems are “not starting today” and represent a “backlog of issues.” Fayose criticized the current approach as focused on individual power plays, likening it to “everybody defending their tea, their cup, and their position.”

He warned that a fragmented approach – “when you use one broom to sweep, you catch no impact” – will ultimately doom the party.

“It is not a denying fact that all is not well with the PDP,” he stated bluntly. “Except a miracle… this party may not reach its dream destination.”

He also pointed to a breakdown in command and direction within the National Working Committee.

Fayose addressed the role of various forums within the party, including a forum of former governors to which he belongs. He emphasized the influence these groups can exert, but underscored that “the voices belong to the party, the leadership of the party.” He cited the supremacy of the courts, stating that decisions of the Supreme Court are binding even if disagreed with.

Responding to comments made by Governor Wike, Fayose warned, describing this week as a potential “bulldozer” situation, urging caution and attempts at resolution.

He cautioned that Wike’s pronouncements, which he saw snippets of on social media, indicated a willingness to escalate the conflict. Specifically, he warned that a threat to “remove your roof” signifies impending trouble.

“When somebody says I will come to your house at a particular time and he arrives there at a particular time, you must know that that’s a problem,” Fayose explained.
