Governor Okpebholo Disburses April Salaries and Pensions Early to Support Easter Celebrations in Edo State

Demonstrating his dedication to the welfare of workers and the economy, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has initiated the early payment of April salaries and pensions for state civil servants and retirees.

This initiative, as confirmed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, is intended to enable residents, especially Christians, to prepare adequately for the upcoming Easter festivities.

“Governor Monday Okpebholo is deeply invested in the welfare of Edo’s workers and pensioners. The decision to disburse salaries and pensions ahead of schedule this April underscores that commitment, particularly as our Christian community prepares for Easter,” Itua stated on Friday.

While many states in Nigeria struggle with delayed wage payments amid widespread economic challenges, Edo State stands out as a model of fiscal responsibility and visionary governance.

This proactive step taken by the Governor has received widespread appreciation from both pensioners and civil servants, many of whom have expressed concerns about inflation and the rising cost of living, which complicates their ability to afford basic necessities.

“Governor Okpebholo’s decision is not just timely; it’s a lifesaver,” remarked Mrs. Janet Osawe, a retired teacher in Benin City. “With prices climbing daily, receiving our pensions before Easter allows us to celebrate with dignity.”

Committed to people-focused governance since taking office, Governor Okpebholo has stated that the welfare of workers is a top priority. His administration asserts that providing advance salary payments is not merely a one-time act but part of a broader policy aimed at ensuring timely and regular wage disbursement for government employees.

“We will continue to prioritize policies that positively impact our citizens’ lives,” Governor Okpebholo reportedly said in a recent state executive meeting. “Good governance must begin with caring for the people, especially those who have faithfully served the state.”

Political analysts and civil society groups observe that the approach taken by Edo State under Governor Okpebholo could serve as a model for other Nigerian states. They argue that transparent financial practices, effective budgeting, and attentiveness to workers’ needs are essential for genuine development and public trust.

As the Easter celebrations approach in Edo, the prepayment of salaries and pensions highlights that responsible leadership and compassionate financial management are both achievable. Through this initiative, Governor Okpebholo further solidifies his reputation as a responsive and people-oriented leader in Nigeria’s political landscape.
