Illegal Firearms with Me From Edo Government House, Confesses Arrested Air Force Personnel

A serving member of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been arrested for allegedly transporting illegal firearms, raising concerns about the circulation of weapons within security institutions.

The serviceman, Anas Muhammad Fakai (service number NAF 23/42603), was intercepted on Tuesday night, November 25, 2025, at Kabba Junction in Lokoja by soldiers of the 12 Brigade in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Authorities seized two pump-action rifles and one Browning pistol in his possession. In a shocking revelation, Fakai claimed that the firearms were sent to him by an inspector at the Edo State Government House, identified only as Inspector Paul, and were intended for a police constable, Mohammed Auwal Haliru, who serves as an orderly to a Commissioner of Police at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja. Fakai is attached to the 107 Air Maritime Group on Airport Road, Benin, Edo State. Speaking about his background, sources noted that Fakai attended the Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, between 2015 and 2019. The arrested serviceman and the seized firearms are currently in custody, and the matter is under investigation pending further directives from security authorities. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the illegal circulation of firearms in Nigeria, particularly when alleged links to government officials and security personnel emerge. The investigation will focus on verifying Fakai’s claims, the legality of the firearms, and the roles of the alleged recipients and senders Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the inspector from Edo Government House or the police constable will face charges, but the case is being closely monitored as it unfolds.
