Nigerian Army Thwarts Bandit Attack, Rescues Kidnap Victim in Kogi State
Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have successfully intercepted an armed gang and rescued a kidnapped individual during a tactical operation in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The mission was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on banditry, abductions, and violent crimes within the state.
According to an official statement released on 25 November 2025, intelligence reports indicated that a group of armed criminals was moving along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana corridor with abducted persons.
Acting on the information, military personnel stationed at the Kabba Patrol Base, in coordination with other hybrid security units, executed a planned ambush to halt the movement of the suspects.
The troops encountered the bandits in the early hours, engaging them in a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. The armed group was met with superior firepower from the military, compelling them to retreat hastily.
One of the assailants was neutralized during the encounter, while others fled the scene with varying injuries.
During the operation, the security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and successfully liberated one kidnapped victim.
The rescued individual, who was found in a weakened and distressed condition, was immediately transferred to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
The Nigerian Army emphasized that further follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal gang. Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security personnel, and provide timely information that could assist in curbing violent activities and enhancing community safety.
Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 12 Brigade, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to protect citizens and sustain pressure on criminal networks operating in Kogi State.
He reiterated that continuous collaboration between communities and security agencies is critical to eradicating threats and ensuring lasting peace in the region.
The operation underscores the military’s proactive approach in addressing insecurity, highlighting its determination to safeguard lives and property while maintaining law and order across the state.
