FG Launches Nationwide Real-Time Online Classes for Secondary School Students

The Federal Government has introduced a comprehensive digital learning programme designed to give students across Nigeria direct access to real-time virtual lessons.

Announcing the initiative on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Education said the project—known as the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative—marks a major step toward improving learning outcomes and closing long-standing educational gaps nationwide.

The ministry’s Director of Press, Folasade Boriowo, described the effort as a transformative move that reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the education sector.

According to the ministry, the programme was developed to cushion challenges such as inadequate teaching personnel and recurrent disruptions to academic activities.

With live, interactive classes streamed straight to learners, the ministry emphasised that the initiative is structured to provide equal access to quality education for children irrespective of their geographical location or socio-economic background.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed that implementation has commenced, noting that the scheme will gradually extend to cover every class from Primary 1 through Senior Secondary School 3.

At present, the Inspire platform is offering classes for junior and senior secondary students. Lessons hold Mondays to Fridays, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and are delivered by certified master teachers through the Cisco Webex platform.

Subjects available for Junior Secondary School students include English Language, Mathematics, Basic Science, ICT, French, Civic Education, Basic Technology, Agricultural Science, History, Physical Education, Religious Studies, and Business Studies.

Senior Secondary School students can access classes in subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics, Agricultural Science, Automobile Mechanics, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, and Civic Education.

To guarantee smooth implementation nationwide, the Federal Government has instructed state Ministries of Education to put necessary structures in place. States are required to appoint focal officers to oversee the programme, communicate participation procedures to schools, and ensure that selected schools have functional ICT resources and reliable internet connectivity.

The ministry added that only school principals are authorised to register their institutions for the programme via official Inspire support channels.

It further clarified that participation is not limited to public schools alone, stressing that both private and government-owned schools across Nigeria are eligible to join the online learning platform.
