Oshiomhole Mocks Atiku, Says He Can’t Fix Nigeria, Defection to ADC of no Consequence

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), asserting that Atiku lacks the capacity to address Nigeria’s challenges.

Speaking on Monday as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the ex-Edo State Governor mocked Atiku’s latest political move, arguing that the former Vice President’s long struggle to stabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) undermines any claim that he can reform the country.

“If Atiku could not stabilise the PDP, how can he hope to fix Nigeria?” Oshiomhole asked, highlighting what he described as the inconsistencies in Atiku’s political career.

Oshiomhole further suggested that Nigerians need leaders with proven capacity and consistency, not politicians who frequently shift party allegiances.

His comments come shortly after Atiku formally joined the ADC, a move that has triggered debate across the country’s political landscape.

Atiku’s camp has dismissed Oshiomhole’s remarks, with aides describing them as an attempt to distract from what they call the ruling party’s “legacy of failure.” The former Vice President’s defection to the ADC is seen by analysts as part of a broader realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The exchange between Oshiomhole and Atiku’s camp highlights growing tensions among Nigeria’s political elite as parties prepare for upcoming electoral contests.
