Suspected Herdsmen Kill 10 and Set Homes Ablaze in Benue Community

At least 10 fatalities have been reported following an attack by suspected herdsmen on the Mbayam Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area, Benue State, on Friday, according to local sources.

The assailants reportedly invaded the area in large numbers, targeting Tse-Ankon community, where they torched multiple houses and killed residents during a brutal assault that lasted several hours with no intervention from security forces.

Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene as gunmen moved from one home to the next, destroying property and executing unarmed individuals. A resident, speaking anonymously, noted that the attackers operated “unhindered for hours” without any response from security personnel.

“So far, we’ve recovered about seven bodies, but more could still be discovered in the bush or among the burned structures,” the resident said.

Among the confirmed victims are Angyoom Kwembe, Orterse Dajo, Negema Kyenge, Ahembe Shawa, Chieyol Shawa, and Hangeior Ukor. Their deaths have plunged the community into grief, prompting many families to flee for safety.

Local leaders have condemned the violence and urged both state and federal governments to swiftly intervene and enhance security for vulnerable communities in the area.

Logo LGA has been one of the most severely affected regions in the ongoing conflict between armed herdsmen and farming communities in Benue State. Despite various military operations and government reassurances, the attacks continue, raising alarm about the safety of rural residents and the efficacy of current security measures.

As of this report, authorities have not released an official statement regarding the incident.
