Katsina Govt Orders Immediate Closure of All Public Schools Over Escalating Security Threats

The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public school across the state following rising security threats and a series of banditry attacks reported in several communities.

The directive, issued on Friday, was confirmed by senior officials in the Ministry of Education, who said the decision became necessary to safeguard students, teachers, and school infrastructure amid worsening insecurity.

According to sources, recent intelligence reports indicated increased movements of armed groups around vulnerable local government areas, prompting urgent deliberations between the state government and security agencies.

The closure affects all categories of public schools, including primary and secondary institutions. While no timeline has been announced for reopening, the government said the situation will be reviewed regularly based on security assessments.

Parents and guardians have been advised to promptly pick up their children, while school authorities have been instructed to ensure orderly evacuation and secure school property.

Katsina, one of the states worst hit by banditry in the North-West, has recorded multiple attacks in recent weeks, including abductions, raids on rural communities, and disruption of farming activities.

The government says it is intensifying collaboration with the military, police, and local vigilante groups to address the renewed threats.
