Super Eagles Determined to Reach 2026 World Cup, Says Troost-Ekong
Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has reaffirmed the team’s determination to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that Nigeria will fight through every hurdle to secure a place at the global tournament scheduled to hold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking after Nigeria advanced to the CAF World Cup Play-off stage, Troost-Ekong acknowledged that the qualification route has been tougher than expected but maintained that the squad remains focused and motivated.
He described the journey as “a long route” but emphasized that it is still a viable path toward achieving their goal.
The defender noted that while automatic qualification would have been ideal, the team is prepared to confront the challenges of the play-off format.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the team, stressing that collective encouragement is crucial at this stage.
According to him, “the players cannot do it alone,” and national unity could make a significant difference in the decisive fixtures ahead.
Troost-Ekong also admitted that some aspects of the qualification process are not entirely in Nigeria’s control, given the influence of results from other fixtures. However, he expressed faith that with hard work, discipline and a bit of luck, the Super Eagles can secure their spot in the 2026 World Cup.
The team is now shifting full focus to the CAF play-off matches, where they will attempt to surpass the final hurdle before possibly facing an intercontinental play-off for a World Cup ticket.
The captain assured fans that the Super Eagles will give their “best shot” as they continue the push to return to football’s biggest stage after missing out on the 2022 edition.
As anticipation builds, Troost-Ekong’s message of determination has further ignited hope among fans eager to see Nigeria reclaim its place in the world football spotlight.
