Makinde Says Ibadan Convention Will Mark Major Turning Point for PDP
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention tagged Ibadan 2025 will be remembered as a historic turning point in the party’s national resurgence.
Makinde made the remark on Saturday while delivering his welcome address at the convention held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The event drew party leaders, delegates and stakeholders from across the country.
The governor, who praised the resilience and commitment of PDP members, noted that the journey to the convention had been marked by intense internal battles and prolonged efforts to stabilise the party.
He, however, said the successful gathering demonstrated renewed unity and determination among party faithful.
“We have fought a long stretch of battle to get to this point, but here we are,” Makinde said. “By the grace of God, this convention will go down as the convention that brought a turn-around to the PDP nationally.”
He also welcomed delegates to Oyo State, assuring them of a peaceful and conducive environment throughout the event.
The Ibadan convention is expected to produce new party leadership and set the tone for the PDP’s strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party insiders say the gathering could mark the beginning of a broader reorganisation aimed at repositioning the PDP as a stronger opposition force.
More decisions and resolutions from the convention are expected as proceedings continue.
