Mohbad’s Family Renews Call for Probe, Bars Widow from Using Aloba till After DNA Test
The family of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has renewed its demand for a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The family also directed his widow, Wunmi, to stop using the family surname, Aloba, until the outcome of a pending DNA test is made public
In a statement jointly signed by family head Omolayo Aloba and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the late artist, insisting that only a credible investigation would bring closure to the controversy surrounding his demise The family remains resolute in its demand for a transparent, independent, and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death,” the statement read As part of new administrative arrangements, the family appointed Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., as its sole legal representative on estate and DNA-related matters, while Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue to represent them before investigative authorities Additionally, three administrators — Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba — were named to oversee the late singer’s assets. The family, however, noted that one slot remains open for Wunmi, but only if the DNA test confirms that her son, Liam, is indeed Mohbad’s biological child The statement further instructed Wunmi to “cease using the surname Aloba in public or private records until lawful confirmation of paternity is obtained,” stressing that “no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo Reacting, Wunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, dismissed the family’s directive as “illegal and sentimental,” asserting that no one can deprive Wunmi of her right to bear her late husband’s name Under the law, she has every right to keep the name given to her by her husband,” Akingbolu said. “The Aloba family is the one frustrating the DNA process despite multiple court orders. We are ready for the DNA any time, any day. The child is not a b@stard, and my client has nothing to fear Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. His burial has since been delayed amid ongoing investigations and family disputes. The Lagos State Police Command had earlier set up a 13-man special investigation team to probe the circumstances of his death.
