Fubara Knocks Contractor Over Poor Road Quality, Threatens Contract Revocation
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed strong displeasure over the poor quality of work delivered by some contractors handling major road projects in the state, warning that his administration will not hesitate to revoke or review any contract found to be substandard.
During an unscheduled inspection of several ongoing road projects — including the Woji–Aleto–Alesa–Refinery Road and other key infrastructure works — Governor Fubara criticized the level of workmanship and the slow pace of construction, describing the situation as unacceptable We will not continue to spend Rivers people’s money on projects that do not meet the required standard,” Fubara declared. “Any contractor who thinks the old ways of doing things will continue under my administration is making a big mistake. This government will not tolerate mediocrity. The governor particularly berated one of the contractors, Raffoul Nigeria Limited, over the poor handling of the 6.5-kilometre Woji–Aleto–Alesa–Refinery Road project, giving the firm a one-month ultimatum to improve or face contract termination Fubara noted that his administration’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure for the people of Rivers State was non-negotiable. He emphasized that all contractors must strictly adhere to project specifications, use quality materials, and meet deadlines. As a government, we are determined to ensure that every naira spent reflects in the quality of projects delivered. We will not compromise on that. If you cannot deliver, we will find someone who can,” he stated. The governor’s tough stance is part of a broader strategy to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money in public infrastructure development. His administration has recently intensified project monitoring, with technical teams deployed to verify compliance with contractual terms and engineering standards. Political observers say the move signals a shift toward stricter governance and a break from the lax oversight that has previously plagued project execution in the state. The Rivers State Government has also indicated plans to conduct a full review of all ongoing contracts, especially those lagging behind schedule or falling below technical specifications. Residents of affected areas have commended the governor’s firm approach, expressing hope that it will lead to faster completion and better-quality infrastructure across the state.
