Atalanta Fire Head Coach Ivan Jurić After Poor Serie A Run
Atalanta BC announced on Monday that head coach Ivan Jurić has been sacked after a dismal start to the 2025‑26 Serie A campaign.
The club confirmed his departure in a brief statement, noting that the entire backroom staff Matteo Paro, Miguel Veloso, Pablo Barbero, Stjepan Ostojic and Michele Orecchio were also released.
“Atalanta BC announces that it has today relieved Ivan Jurić of his duties as head coach of the First Team, along with his staff,” the statement read, thanking them for their “dedication” and wishing them well for the future.
Jurić, who took over from longtime manager Gian Piero Gasperini in June, had endured a turbulent spell.
After an initial nine‑match unbeaten streak that included seven draws, the team’s form collapsed, culminating in a 3‑0 home defeat to newly‑promoted Sassuolo on 9 November 2025.
That loss left Atalanta in 13th place with just two wins from 11 league games and a win‑less streak of seven Serie A matches.
The split followed a heated touchline confrontation with Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman during Atalanta’s 1‑0 Champions League victory over Marseille.
Lookman was substituted in the 75th minute and exchanged sharp words with Jurić, an incident that reportedly signalled deeper locker‑room unrest and hastened the club’s decision.
Speculation immediately turned to Jurić’s successor, with former Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino emerging as the frontrunner.
The 41‑year‑old, who guided Fiorentina to a sixth‑place finish and Conference League qualification in 2024‑25, is reportedly in advanced talks for a contract that could run until 2027.
Atalanta is now tasked with rebuilding confidence ahead of a crucial fixture against Napoli on 22 November, which will likely serve as Palladino’s debut on the bench.
The club’s season has been a stark contrast to their European form, where they sit in the Champions League group stage with modest points.
