Police Nab Suspected Robber With Pistol Hidden Inside Loaf of Bread in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Nnamdi Stanley Chibuike, after officers discovered a pistol cleverly concealed inside a loaf of bread during a stop-and-search operation in Asaba, the state capital.
According to reports, the arrest occurred around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2025, when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were conducting routine patrols at Koka Roundabout.
The suspect, who resides at Ogbeowele Quarters behind the General Hospital in Asaba, was stopped for questioning after officers noticed his suspicious behavior.
During the search, the police uncovered a fabricated Beretta pistol hidden within a loaf of bread the suspect was carrying. The improvised weapon was immediately confiscated as evidence, and Chibuike was taken into custody for interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Abaniwonda Olufemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement, commending the RRS operatives for their vigilance and professionalism. He described the discovery as another testament to the commitment of the Command to rid the state of criminal elements, no matter how sophisticated their tactics.
Olufemi noted that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect might be linked to a network of armed robbers and kidnappers operating within the Asaba metropolis and its environs.
He assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
“This arrest demonstrates the importance of proactive policing and routine stop-and-search exercises. Criminals continue to devise new ways to evade detection, but our men remain alert to expose their tricks,” the Commissioner said.
The unusual method of concealing a weapon inside a loaf of bread has drawn public attention, highlighting the growing ingenuity of criminals in the state.
Security experts have also emphasized the need for continuous surveillance and community cooperation to strengthen the fight against crime in Delta and beyond.
As of the time of this report, the suspect remains in police custody, while further investigations are being carried out to determine the source of the firearm and the suspect’s possible involvement in other criminal activities.
