Ali Modu Sheriff Denies Viral Report Linking Shettima to Boko Haram
Former Borno State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has debunked a viral report alleging that he accused Vice President Kashim Shettima of creating the Boko Haram insurgency.
In a statement released through his media office on Saturday, Sheriff described the publication titled “It’s Not Me, It’s Shettima Who Created Boko Haram Sheriff Reveals” as completely false, malicious, and aimed at misleading the public.
“The story is a total falsehood, devoid of truth, and a deliberate attempt to sow discord within the nation’s political landscape,” the statement read. “At no time did Senator Sheriff engage with any journalist on this matter.”
Sheriff maintained that he never granted any interview or made any comments linking the Vice President to the insurgency, stressing that the report was the handiwork of mischief makers bent on creating tension between him and Shettima.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the fake news and be wary of online sources spreading misinformation for political or personal gain.
The former governor also reaffirmed his cordial relationship with Vice President Shettima, describing him as “a brother and a compatriot committed to the progress and unity of Borno State and Nigeria.”
Sheriff further called on security agencies to track down those behind the false publication, warning that such reckless fabrications could undermine national security and public trust.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Sheriff’s loyalty to the APC and his continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
