Three Die, Others Injured in Ikorodu Multiple Road Crash
At least three people died and several others injured on Saturday after a multi-vehicle crash occurred at Powerline Junction inward Aleje, in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the collision involved a tipper truck, three tricycles, a Toyota Corolla, and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) bus.
According to LASTMA, the tipper reportedly suffered a brake failure, resulting in the fatal chain collision.
“We recorded a fatal accident at Powerline junction inward Aleje in Ikorodu; it involved a Tipper that had a brake failure, three tricycles (Marwa), a Corolla car and a MPV bus. Three lives were lost and several people sustained injuries,” the agency said.
Emergency teams from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the Nigeria Police, and LASTMA were deployed to the scene to rescue victims and manage the situation.
Traffic congestion reportedly stretched beyond Sabo Roundabout, forcing LASTMA to introduce a counterflow system to ease movement, though traffic from Ikorodu Garage was also affected.
The incident occurred barely two days after another fatal crash at Ekoro Junction, Abule-Egba, where a tricycle operator was killed in a four-vehicle collision.
LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, said the earlier accident was caused by a mechanical brake failure involving a six-tyre trailer.
“In a harrowing and deeply lamentable road catastrophe that unfolded at Ekoro Junction inward Ile-iwe, a tricycle operator tragically lost his life on the spot, while two other individuals sustained grievous injuries,” he said.
Taofiq added that officials rescued trapped victims and secured the area to prevent further accidents.
