Kwara College Replaces Night Guards with Vigilantes to Strengthen Security
The Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin, has engaged local vigilante groups to take over campus security duties from its former night guards, in a renewed effort to safeguard school property and curb theft.
The Acting Provost, Dr Saad Hadi, said the management decided to deploy vigilantes as part of broader security upgrades, including the installation of CCTV surveillance at the College’s transformer point and the introduction of solar lighting systems across the campus.
“These measures are to strengthen security and prevent recurring thievery,” Hadi said.
He added that the institution had also launched mandatory computer training for students to enhance digital literacy and solarised its Internet Centre, Accounting and Computer Laboratories to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Dr Hadi said the College plans to roll out online learning platforms and establish outreach centres to widen academic access.
Since his assumption of office in 2023, he noted, CAILS had made notable progress in staff welfare, academic innovation, infrastructure renewal, financial discipline, and stakeholder collaboration.
He listed some of the achievements, including the creation of an Alumni and Public Relations Centre, a Data and Statistics Unit, and the College’s recognition as the first institution in Nigeria to secure NBTE approval for ND Law and ND Sharia/Civil Law programmes.
Other milestones include the accreditation of six National Diploma programmes, timely salary payments, improved staff allowances, and a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2024 Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) re-accreditation.
Dr Hadi also disclosed that the College installed a 3,300 KVA central transformer donated by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, while work continues on an Alumni-sponsored Law Moot Court for practical legal training.
He added that the institution had secured NCC assurance for e-learning resources and a one-year library subscription.
