Governor Buni Inaugurates State Council on Nutrition 774 Initiative to Combat Malnutrition
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has officially inaugurated the State Council on Nutrition 774 initiative as a major step toward fighting malnutrition in the state.
The inauguration occurred during the visit of Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwukah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Health, who was in the state for an advocacy visit regarding the initiative.
Alignment with National and State Goals
Governor Buni expressed Yobe State’s full alignment with the objectives of the Nutrition 774 programme, recognizing it as a driving force for improved public health and sustainable growth.
He highlighted that Yobe State had already laid the groundwork for the initiative through massive agricultural programs, stating, “Our administration in Yobe State launched a massive agricultural empowerment programme to boost food security, nutrition and economic growth,” Buni said.
He noted that this focus on agricultural production encourages mass involvement and paves the way for a smooth integration with the Nutrition 774 programme.
The Governor added that the state has integrated nutrition-sensitive interventions into its health, education, and social protection programs, as well as the skill acquisition program of the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Governor Buni described the Nutrition 774 Initiative which aims to reach all 774 Local Government Areas nationwide as a transformative vision where every LGA becomes a “hub for community driven nutrition action.”
He stressed the importance of strong coordination, multi-sectoral collaboration, and the active participation of the people at the grassroots level.
Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwukah commended Governor Buni for his achievements, particularly in healthcare delivery and agriculture, calling him a “great silent achiever.” She expressed optimism that the programme would be a success story in Yobe State, contributing to a healthy population vital for socio-economic development.
