Reno Omokri Slams Peter Obi for ‘Lies Against Tinubu’, Accuses Him of De-Marketing Nigeria

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has accused Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of spreading falsehoods against President Bola Tinubu and attempting to de-market Nigeria on the global stage.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Omokri alleged that Obi, whom he described as “a desperate liar,” was deliberately misrepresenting facts about the current security situation in the country to revive his “failed presidential ambition.”

Omokri claimed that Obi had earlier remained silent on Nigeria’s recent security challenges until he publicly called him out, only for the former Anambra State governor to later issue a statement blaming the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government for incompetence and poor leadership.

Quoting Obi’s recent statement, Omokri wrote:

“While the insecurity did not start with the present government, what is most unfortunate is the lack and absence of competence, commitment, prudent use of resources, patriotism and passion on the part of the APC-led government/leaders to effectively govern, galvanise and lead Nigeria where no one is unwarrantedly oppressed and killed, a nation where peace, truth and justice reign.”

Responding to the claim, Omokri described Obi’s statement as false, citing statistics from the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) published by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

According to him, “In 2015, the Global Terror Index reported 7,512 terror-related deaths in Nigeria. Fast forward to 2025, the same index reported 565 terror-related casualties in 2024. If the Tinubu administration has been able to reduce terror-related killings to 10 percent of the 2015 numbers, then how can Peter Obi accuse that government of incompetence?”

Omokri further accused Obi of hypocrisy, alleging that during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, over 1,000 young men were extrajudicially killed and their bodies dumped in the Ezu River.

He also linked Obi’s recent remarks to his visit to Washington, D.C., in September 2025, suggesting that the former governor’s comments were influenced by foreign interests.

“The fact remains clear that Peter Obi is a desperate liar who lacks patriotism and will do and say anything to advance his presidential aspirations, including selling out Nigeria,” Omokri stated.

He urged Nigerians to “take note” of what he described as Obi’s consistent pattern of “spreading falsehoods and celebrating perceived national setbacks.”

Omokri concluded by describing Obi as “a Quisling who will unpatriotically betray Nigeria even when he knows the truth.”
