Bernard Doro Cleared by Senate as Minister After Brief Screening
The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a brief screening exercise that lasted less than half an hour.
Dr. Doro, who becomes the third ministerial appointee from Plateau State under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, used the session to share his vision of establishing an inclusive and impartial humanitarian framework across the country.
He pledged to promote a humanitarian system rooted in fairness, independence, and inclusivity, stressing that his approach would strengthen national unity and ensure that aid reaches all citizens regardless of background.
After a few questions from lawmakers, senators expressed confidence in his competence and credentials. The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, subsequently directed him to “take a bow and go,” signaling his confirmation.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier forwarded Doro’s name to the Senate for screening and confirmation, in line with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The request was contained in a letter read by Senator Akpabio during plenary, in which the President urged the lawmakers to give the nomination prompt attention.
The Senate Committee of the Whole considered the nomination and gave its approval shortly afterward.
Dr. Doro’s nomination follows the recent emergence of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.
President Tinubu had announced Doro’s appointment as ministerial nominee barely 24 hours before the Senate read his letter, setting the stage for Thursday’s swift confirmation.
