APC Will Not Implode Over Defections, Bayelsa Chieftain Tackles Nabena

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Kenelayefa Stevens, has dismissed as false and misleading, the claims by former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena, that the APC is on the verge of implosion due to recent defections.

Stevens, who hails from Sagbama Local Government Area, said Nabena’s comments were not only baseless but also a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary tension within the party.

Speaking with journalists in Yenagoa on Tuesday, Stevens maintained that the APC in Bayelsa remains united, focused, and committed to consolidating its growing strength across the state and beyond.

He noted that defections are normal in democratic politics and do not signify weakness or crisis within the party.

“Our great party, the APC, is stronger than ever. The claims by Nabena are unfounded and do not reflect the reality on the ground in Bayelsa.

We are witnessing an influx of new members and renewed confidence in the leadership of the party both at the state and national levels,” Stevens stated.

He further commended the leadership of the party for maintaining cohesion and inclusivity despite political distractions, stressing that the APC remains the most formidable political platform capable of delivering credible governance to Nigerians.

Stevens urged party members and supporters to ignore what he described as “alarmist statements” aimed at demoralizing loyalists ahead of upcoming political activities.

“Our focus remains on building bridges, strengthening internal democracy, and preparing strategically for the 2027 elections,” he added.

The Bayelsa APC chieftain also called on stakeholders to prioritize unity and cooperation, noting that only a united front can guarantee victory for the party in future elections.

He reaffirmed his confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Working Committee of the party, describing their efforts as crucial to repositioning the APC for greater national relevance.
