Lone #FreeNnamdiKanu Protester Arrested in Lagos

A lone protester identified as Declan Ihekaire was on Monday arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command while staging a solo demonstration calling for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Ihekaire, who was seen holding placards and chanting solidarity slogans, was reportedly rounded up at the Iyana Ipaja Roundabout shortly after addressing a small group of onlookers. Witnesses said he had been peacefully expressing his views before police officers arrived at the scene.
Videos circulating on social media show Ihekaire surrounded by several police officers who subsequently whisked him away in a patrol van.
The protester was said to be calling for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) despite multiple court rulings ordering his release.
As of press time, the Lagos State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding Ihekaire’s arrest or the charges against him.
The incident has sparked reactions online, with activists and civil society groups calling for his immediate release and urging security agencies to respect citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful protest and freedom of expression.
Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader, has been facing trial on charges bordering on treasonable felony and other offences related to his separatist activities. His continued detention has been a subject of widespread debate and periodic protests across parts of Nigeria and among diaspora groups.
