Umza Aviation to Begin Ilorin–Abuja Flights, Boosting Kwara’s Connectivity, Economy

Air travelers in Kwara State are set to enjoy improved connectivity as Umza Aviation Services Ltd (UAS) has announced plans to commence commercial flight operations between Ilorin and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the airline, the new route which will operate daily between 7:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. is part of its strategic expansion to enhance domestic air travel and support economic development across Nigeria’s key regional hubs.

UAS described the decision to include the Ilorin–Abuja route in its growing network as a reflection of the enabling business environment and economic growth currently being experienced in Kwara State under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

“The inclusion of Ilorin in our service map demonstrates our confidence in the state’s growing economy and its potential to become a major investment and travel destination in North Central Nigeria,” a company statement read.

The airline added that the new route would not only make travel between the two cities faster and more convenient but would also stimulate local commerce, attract investors, and boost tourism in the state.

Industry observers have also hailed the move as a major step toward unlocking the state’s economic potential.

With air connectivity long identified as a missing link in Kwara’s investment profile, Umza’s operation is expected to make the state more accessible to both local and international investors.

Residents and business travelers across Kwara and neighboring states such as Kogi, Ekiti, and Osun have welcomed the development, describing it as a long-awaited relief from the stress of road travel between Ilorin and Abuja.

“This is great news for us. Many people who do business in Abuja have been waiting for a reliable and affordable flight option from Ilorin,” said a businesswoman, Mrs. Aminat Yusuf, who commutes frequently between both cities.

With its entry into the Kwara aviation market, Umza Air joins the growing list of domestic airlines expanding operations beyond Nigeria’s major metropolitan centers, in line with efforts to decentralize air travel and support regional development.

The airline is expected to announce specific flight schedules and ticket details in the coming days.
