Ondo PDP Rejects Resignation of Publicity Secretary, Peretei

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has formally rejected the resignation of its publicity secretary, Kennedy Peretei, following a visit by the state leadership on Friday.

Bakitta Bello, the chairman of the PDP caretaker committee in Ondo State, led a delegation to Peretei’s residence in Akure, the state capital, to persuade him to reconsider his decision to resign from the party. Peretei had tendered his resignation on Wednesday, citing dissatisfaction with what he described as “selfish leadership” within the party.

He submitted his resignation letter at his ward in Arogbo Ward 1, located in the Êse Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Speaking to Peretei during their visit, Mr. Bello expressed that while the party acknowledged Peretei’s right to feel offended, he urged him to reconsider. Bello emphasized that the issues currently facing the party were not enough to warrant his departure. “Yes, you have the right to feel offended if you need to. But you must also understand, as an experienced politician, that a combination of factors are always responsible for any particular action or resolution of a political party,” Bello stated.

Bello further pleaded with Peretei, referring to him as a “true party man,” and insisted that his resignation would not be accepted. “You have to rescind your decision to quit the party because we are not accepting your resignation letter,” Bello added.

In his earlier address to the committee members, Peretei explained that his resignation was rooted in a sense of betrayal and disappointment. He expressed frustration with the behavior of certain individuals within the party whom he had once held in high esteem, leading to his decision to step down.

Peretei’s resignation had the potential to further intensify the ongoing political challenges within the PDP in Ondo State, where leadership disputes and internal conflicts have become a recurring theme. The rejection of his resignation, however, marks another chapter in the party’s attempts to stabilize and retain key members amidst the turmoil.

It remains to be seen whether Peretei will reconsider his position or if this intervention by the party leadership will ultimately smooth over the differences between him and the leadership of the PDP in Ondo State.
