APC Adopts Consensus Method for Ekiti 2026 Governorship Primary

With preparations intensifying ahead of the June 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that it will adopt the consensus mode for the conduct of its governorship primary.
The decision, which marks a significant step in the party’s internal processes, was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the statement, the decision followed the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo, from the contest.
In a letter addressed to the party, Mrs. Omolayo formally conveyed her decision to step down and expressed her endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the consensus candidate. She also reiterated her support for any arrangement the party deems fit in nominating its flag bearer, provided it aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the APC Constitution.
Morka further explained that the party had duly communicated this development to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through an official letter dated October 13, 2025.
He stated that the party had complied with the requirements stipulated under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act, which outline the conditions for adopting a consensus method in primary elections.
The APC spokesman also disclosed that the party had approved a timetable of activities leading to the nomination congress.
He revealed that the delegate congress would hold on Saturday, October 25, 2025, followed by the appeal of the delegate congress on Sunday, October 26, 2025, while the special nomination congress to ratify the consensus candidate would take place on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Morka commended Mrs. Omolayo for what he described as her exemplary spirit of sportsmanship, loyalty, and dedication to the unity and progress of the party. He urged all party leaders, members, and stakeholders in Ekiti State to remain steadfast, united, and committed to ensuring the success of the APC in the forthcoming June 2026 governorship election.
