Pegula Stuns Sabalenka, Sets Up All-American Final With Gauff at Wuhan Open

Jessica Pegula pulled off a sensational victory on Saturday, October 11, 2025, ending Aryna Sabalenka’s perfect record at the Wuhan Open and securing a spot in an all-American final against Coco Gauff.

Pegula, ranked No. 5 in the world, fought back from a set down to defeat Sabalenka 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2). The Belarusian star, a three-time Wuhan champion, had never lost a match at the tournament before Saturday. Pegula’s resilience and precision under pressure allowed her to break Sabalenka twice in the deciding tiebreak to claim the win.

“This is a huge win for me,” Pegula said after the match. “Aryna is an incredible competitor, especially here in Wuhan where she’s been unbeatable. I’m excited to face Coco in the final.”

Earlier on Saturday, Coco Gauff overcame a tough semifinal against Jasmine Paolini, setting up the highly anticipated showdown with Pegula. The Sunday final promises to showcase the growing dominance of American women in tennis.

Pegula aims to claim her fourth WTA 1000 title and her first trophy of the season, while Gauff looks to add another significant title to her rapidly rising career.
