Federal Government Introduces Automation of Landing and Exit Cards for Foreigners

In a move aimed at streamlining immigration processes and enhancing national security, the Federal Government of Nigeria today announced the complete automation of landing and exit cards for all foreign nationals entering or departing the country.
The new system will take effect on May 1, 2025.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, the manual processing of these essential immigration documents will be discontinued from the specified date. Under the new directive, all foreign travelers will be mandated to complete the necessary forms online prior to commencing their journey to or from Nigeria.
The government emphasized that this digital transformation is designed to improve efficiency, reduce processing times at ports of entry and exit, and allow for more accurate data collection. It is also expected to contribute significantly to the country’s security apparatus by providing advance passenger information.
The online platform for completing the landing and exit forms is expected to be launched in the coming weeks, with detailed instructions and guidelines to be made available on the websites of the Ministry of Interior, the Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigerian embassies and high commissions worldwide.
Foreign airlines and travel agencies are also expected to play a crucial role in disseminating this information to their passengers. The Federal Government has urged all prospective travelers to familiarize themselves with the new online procedure well in advance of their travel dates to ensure a smooth and seamless experience.
While the transition to a fully automated system marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s immigration management, authorities have assured that adequate measures will be put in place to assist travelers during the initial implementation phase.
This development is in line with global best practices and reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency and security of its borders.
