Oyo APC Chair Foresees End to Party Infighting, Hails ‘Unity Summit’

The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Olayide Abas, has voiced strong confidence that the persistent internal turmoil plaguing the party is nearing its resolution.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday at the APC’s headquarters in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, Abas suggested that key party figures are now aligned on a path toward cooperation, aiming to forge a stronger, united progressive bloc within the state.

Abas characterized political crises as an inevitable component of any human collective, arising from the natural dynamics of interaction, competition, and ambition. He maintained that a party’s capacity for effective crisis management is the true measure of its potential for growth, expansion, and eventual electoral triumph.

“Crises have always been part of human existence,” Abas stated. “It is not expected that any political gathering would always be without a crisis borne out of interactions, competition, and projection.”

The chairman observed that after nearly a decade of internal friction, the Oyo APC had reached a critical consensus.

“We have gone through a lot in the last seven or eight years, and the beautiful thing now is that we have got to a point where virtually everyone is saying ‘enough is enough.'”

The chairman pointed to a Leadership Summit held on Tuesday as a turning point, saying its outcome strongly indicated a future brightened by hope, unity, and progress for the APC.

The event, which saw the attendance of prominent invitees from across the state, was hailed as a “new beginning with a promise of huge success.”

Abas extended his gratitude to senior party figures, including Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Akin Oke, Senator Ayo Adeseun, Sen. Brimo Yusuf, and Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, along with the Peace Advocates group—a collective of distinguished leaders—for their contributions.

He noted that their efforts ensured the summit was a success, reigniting a spirit of togetherness, love, and service among members.

Since assuming the state chairmanship late last year, Abas affirmed that the APC has prioritized reconciliation efforts, with tangible results now emerging.

He highlighted that the recent summit was financially backed by eminent party members dedicated to the APC’s well-being in the state.

The immediate next step, Abas revealed, is to establish an Implementation Committee to ensure that the resolutions reached during the summit are fully actualized.

Concurrently, efforts are underway to organize an expanded Stakeholder Meeting in the near future, designed to fully integrate all members and factions under the unified banner of the Oyo APC.
