Elder Statesman Christopher Kolade Passes On at 92

 

Veteran broadcaster, diplomat, and respected elder statesman, Dr. Christopher Kolade, has passed away at the age of 92.

 

His family confirmed the news in an official statement released on Thursday, announcing that the former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

 

“We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings,” the family said in the statement.

 

Dr. Kolade, fondly referred to as Nigeria’s gentleman diplomat, was renowned for his integrity, leadership, and lifelong dedication to public service. He served in various capacities across the private and public sectors, leaving behind an enduring legacy of excellence and moral uprightness.

 

A distinguished media practitioner, Kolade began his career as a broadcaster with the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), where he rose to become Director-General. His passion for communication and education later saw him lecture at several institutions, inspiring generations of journalists and leaders.

 

He was also a corporate titan, serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, and later as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, where he earned respect for his professionalism and diplomacy.

 

Dr. Kolade was widely admired for his role in promoting ethical leadership and national development. He served as Pro-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University and was a key advocate for transparency, good governance, and youth mentorship.

Tributes have begun to pour in from across the country, with many describing him as a man of integrity, humility, and unwavering faith.

Funeral arrangements, according to the family, will be announced in due course.
