Bus Rams into Yobe Market Killing Pregnant Woman, 4 Others, Injures 19

It was black Sunday, on April 6th, at Damagum market, Yobe State when a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number KTG 283 XA rammed into the busy market, killing five people including a pregnant woman and leaving 19 injured.
According to Livinus Yilzoom, Yobe State Sector Commander of the Federal Rosd Safety Corps, FRSC, the bus was traveling very fast lost control and rammed into those standing by the road side during closing time for the market awaiting bus to transport them after business hours.
During an interview with Channels Television, Yilzoom revealed that the five dead were not bus driver or passengers but innocent individuals who were knocked down by the bus when the driver lost control.
“The driver, in his attempt to avoid the pedestrians, knocked five people who were killed as he lost control due to the speed he was operating at,” he revealed.
The FRSC commander has confirmed that a team from the Dogon Kuka unit command was swiftly dispatched to the scene of the incident to convey the victims to the nearest medical facility. The investigation at the accident scene found that the driver’s reckless disregard for speed limits and loss of control were the primary causes of the crash.
The FRSC has appealed to motorists to exercise caution and keep to speed limits, especially in areas with high population density, to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
The agency’s management, led by Dauda Biu, has been in close consultation with rescue operators to help the affected families and provide the necessary medical attention to the injured.
