Flamingos Head to Morocco for Final World Cup Preparations, Friendlies in Casablanca

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will leave Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday, October 8, to begin their final phase of preparations for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

According to a statement on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) website on Tuesday, Head Coach Bankole Olowookere will lead the team to a training camp in Casablanca, where they will play two international friendly matches against New Zealand and Paraguay.

“While in Casablanca, the Flamingos will intensify their build-up with two high-profile international friendlies — first against New Zealand on October 10, followed by a clash with Paraguay on October 14,” the NFF said.

After the friendlies, the squad will proceed to Rabat on October 15 to check into the official FIFA hotel, where all participating teams will be accommodated for the tournament.

Nigeria will open their World Cup campaign against Canada on Sunday, October 19, before facing France three days later. Both fixtures are scheduled for 8 p.m. Nigerian time at the Football Academy Mohammed VI in the city of Sale.

The Flamingos will complete their group-stage fixtures with a match against Samoa on October 25, kicking off at 5 p.m. at the same venue.

Olowookere’s team heads into the competition in superb form, having won all 10 of their preparatory matches, scoring 44 goals and keeping a perfect defensive record.

Their strong performances and well-balanced squad have raised expectations as the young Nigerians aim to surpass their quarter-final finish at the last edition of the tournament in the Dominican Republic.
