Gang-Up Coalition Cannot Stop Tinubu’s Re-election in 2027, Claims Ex Lawmaker

A top officials in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has dismissed claims that the coalition of opposition parties would deprive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu re-election in 2027.
Oyintiloye, a past member of the Osun State House of Assembly and APC leader, claimed that President Tinubu’s leadership qualities, performances, and popularity in Nigeria would ensure his election, regardless of political maneuvering by opposition parties.
Oyintiloye made this remark following the rising concerns over recent massive defections of key APC members to other parties. Notwithstanding these defections, with some high-profile names in the APC, Oyintiloye believes that such defections are a normal occurrence in Nigerian politics and would not affect the President’s re-election chances. Political alignments established by opposition parties, in his view, would not be capable of putting up a united front strong enough to dislodge Tinubu from office.
In the same vein, the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, also spoke about the political dynamics. Ganduje, a die-hard supporter of the President, echoed Oyintiloye’s statement by declaring that any political re-alignment would not threaten Tinubu’s re-election. He played down the merger of the opposition as ineffective, emphasizing that most of the participating leaders are driven by personal interests and competing ideologies, thus not capable of displaying a united front.
The statements by Oyintiloye and Ganduje come in the aftermath of the opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, announcing a new political coalition. The general aim of the coalition is to mount a formidable challenge to President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. But the APC bigwigs are certain that the cohesion of purpose required to defeat Tinubu will not be forthcoming, and they are unwavering in their loyalty to his leadership.
This political tug-of-war is an omen for an intensifying war ahead of the 2027 presidential poll, with the APC and opposition parties planning their strategies for power. While the opposition leaders hope to ride on the discontentment in the ruling party, Tinubu’s team is prepared to stand its ground, pointing to the President’s track record and the broad support he still enjoys across the country.
As the 2027 elections draw near, only time will reveal whether the opposition coalition gains momentum or if President Tinubu’s political base stays strong despite growing challenges. For now, however, APC leaders like Oyintiloye and Ganduje are firm that no political coalition can stop Tinubu’s re-election.
