Chelle Names Final Super Eagles Squad for Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has announced his final 23-man squad for Nigeria’s must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa.

The announcement, which trims down an earlier 31-man provisional list, brings together a mix of seasoned internationals and rising stars as Nigeria looks to secure a place at the global showpiece.

Leading the squad is captain William Troost-Ekong, who returns to marshal the defence. He will be supported by regulars such as Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, and Bright Osayi-Samuel. In midfield, Alex Iwobi and Raphael Onyedika provide creativity and balance, while Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen headline the attack, promising firepower up front.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who impressed in recent fixtures, retains his spot as the first-choice shot-stopper.

The final selection reflects Chelle’s effort to balance experience with youthful energy, ensuring the Super Eagles have the depth and tactical flexibility needed for the high-stakes encounters.

Nigeria will first host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Matchday 7, before travelling to Bloemfontein to face South Africa on Matchday 8.

Chelle’s announcement has heightened anticipation ahead of the qualifiers, with analysts pointing out that Nigeria’s World Cup hopes hinge on avoiding any slip-ups.

The coach is under pressure to deliver strong performances, especially as the Super Eagles navigate a challenging qualifying group.

The squad’s unveiling has already generated excitement among fans, who will be eager to see how stars like Osimhen and Lookman combine in attack, and whether Iwobi can dictate play from midfield.

With the matches carrying significant implications for Nigeria’s World Cup chances, expectations are running high that the Super Eagles will rise to the occasion.
