What is Ilera Eko?

Ilera Eko is a social health insurance scheme designed to ease the Lagosian healthcare burden by providing comprehensive health cover at an affordable cost.

Established in 2015 by the Lagos State Government and supported by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act of 2022, the scheme compels everyone residing in Lagos to take health insurance.

With the choice of different plans including the Standard Plan, Senior Plan, Diaspora Plan, and Telemedicine Plan, Ilera Eko pays 80% of hospital needs like consultation, treatment for common diseases, maternal care, chronic disease management, and operations.

Affordability and Financial Inclusion

One of the strengths of Ilera Eko is that it is not expensive. The registration fee is N15,000 per individual, N55,000 for a family of four, and N80,000 for a family of six. For convenience, LASHMA has introduced the ILERA N’TIWA Cooperative, where one can pay in installments.

This is to achieve financial inclusion among residents in Lagos, particularly those in the informal sector.
