Plateau State Lawmaker Abducted in Jos

A disturbing incident unfolded on Monday night in Jos, Plateau State, when gunmen abducted Hon. Laven Jacob, the lawmaker representing Pankshin South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
The kidnappers struck at Jacob’s residence in the Angwan Kaji area of Dong, Jos North Local Government Area, whisking him away to an unknown destination.
According to eyewitnesses, the lawmaker was ambushed by three masked men at the entrance of his home as he returned from an outing with friends around 7:30 pm.
The kidnappers allegedly dragged him out of his vehicle and took him away before security personnel could respond.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the abduction, with Police Public Relations Officer Alfred Alabo stating that the command received a report of the incident on September 22, 2025.
The police have launched a manhunt, with the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, directing the deployment of all Divisional Police Officers, tactical, and patrol teams to join the rescue operation.
The abduction has raised concerns about the safety and security of residents in the area, particularly in the Dong community, which has experienced a surge in kidnapping and criminal activities.
A family member expressed worry over the growing insecurity, citing a recent incident where a social media food vendor and her brother, a corps member, were kidnapped and later released after a ransom was paid.
As of Tuesday morning, the kidnappers had not made any contact with the family or demanded a ransom, and Jacob’s condition remains unknown.
The Plateau State government and the House of Assembly have yet to issue official statements on the abduction.
