Jimmy Kimmel Live! Returns to ABC on Tuesday After Suspension

ABC has announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to the air on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, following a six-day suspension.

The suspension was prompted by comments host Jimmy Kimmel made regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

In his September 15 monologue, Kimmel criticized political figures for politicizing Kirk’s death, stating, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

These remarks led to backlash from conservative groups and media affiliates, including Nexstar and Sinclair, who pulled the show from their stations.

In a statement, The Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, explained that the suspension aimed to avoid inflaming a tense national situation.

The company acknowledged that some of Kimmel’s comments were “ill-timed and insensitive” but emphasized the importance of free speech and open discourse.

The suspension sparked a national debate over free speech and media accountability, with supporters defending Kimmel’s right to commentary. ABC has not released further details on whether any editorial changes will accompany the show’s return.
