Enugu Government Denounced Murder of Father Eya

 

 

The Enugu State Government has vehemently denounced the heinous murder of Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese by unidentified assailants.

 

The government extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and indeed the entire Catholic community over this tragic event, which transpired on Friday, September 19, 2025.

 

In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the government condemned the act as cowardly and cold-blooded.

 

Father Eya was reportedly shot dead by a group of attackers along the Alumona-Eha Ndiagu road in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu.

 

The government has reiterated its commitment to the security of lives and property, pledging to bring the perpetrators to justice.

 

It further stated that no resources, including technology and credible intelligence, would be spared in tracking down the criminals and eradicating the remaining agents of malevolence in the state.

 

To this end, the Enugu State Government has announced a ₦10 million reward for anyone with reliable information leading to the arrest of those responsible for this atrocious crime.
