Ondo SUG Leaders Seek Review of NANS JCC Election Process
Some Student Union Government (SUG) leaders in Ondo State have called on the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to review the recently conducted election for the position of vice-chairman of the NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Ondo axis.
The call was contained in a joint statement issued on Sunday and circulated to reporters by representatives of several higher institutions in the state, including the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure; Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo; Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji; Federal University of Technology, Akure; and the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.
The students expressed concern over what they described as irregularities in the conduct of the election, stressing that the process fell short of transparency and inclusiveness.
According to them, some stakeholders and delegates were allegedly sidelined, which they argue undermined the credibility of the exercise.
They appealed to the NANS zonal and national leadership to urgently investigate the issues raised, with a view to ensuring fairness, restoring trust, and strengthening student democracy in the state.
“We are not against the emergence of any candidate,” the statement read, “but we demand a process that reflects the will of the students across Ondo campuses. Anything short of this risks creating division and loss of confidence in the JCC leadership structure.”
The SUG leaders also urged NANS to adopt more transparent measures in future elections, including proper accreditation of delegates and stricter monitoring to prevent manipulation.
As of press time, the NANS Zonal and National leadership had yet to officially respond to the demands.
