Super Eagles Drop to 45th in FIFA Rankings, Slip Out of Africa’s Top Five

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen to 45th place in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Rankings, marking a setback that also sees them drop out of the top five teams on the African continent.
The rankings, released on Thursday by the world football governing body, showed Nigeria slipping one place from their previous 44th position.
On the African table, the Super Eagles now sit sixth, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
The decline reflects the team’s inconsistent results in recent World Cup qualifying matches. Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw against South Africa in Bloemfontein and managed a 1-0 win over Rwanda in Uyo. However, damaging defeats — including a heavy 4-0 loss to Sudan and a 1-0 defeat to Senegal — weighed heavily on their overall points tally.
Morocco retained their spot as Africa’s top-ranked team at 11th in the world, while Senegal followed in 18th place. Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire complete the continent’s top five.
The Super Eagles’ drop in the rankings has sparked renewed concerns about the team’s form and their readiness for upcoming fixtures. Analysts warn that their position could affect tournament seedings and diminish their competitive edge if the poor run continues.
With crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Benin Republic on the horizon, the Super Eagles face mounting pressure to secure strong results in order to regain lost ground both in Africa and globally.
