Police Vow to Rescue Ex-Lawmaker Kidnapped by Suspected IPOB/ESN Members

The Imo State Police Command has pledged to rescue former state legislator, Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, who was abducted by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), and to bring his kidnappers to justice.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, in a statement on Sunday, confirmed that the police were aware of a viral video showing Ogbu pleading for his life and warning that his captors threatened to kill him within four days if security operatives were not withdrawn from the White House area of Okigwe Local Government.

Okoye stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units in collaboration with other security agencies to track down the abductors.

“The command has launched a detailed investigation and will not relent until the hoodlums are apprehended and Hon. Ngozi Ogbu is safely reunited with his family,” Okoye said.

Ogbu, who previously represented Okigwe State Constituency, was abducted in Onuimo Local Government Area on September 7, 2025.

The police urged residents of Imo to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them that every necessary measure was being taken to dismantle the terror group’s activities in the state.

The abduction underscores lingering security concerns in the South-East, where IPOB and its armed wing, ESN, have repeatedly clashed with security operatives.
