IBBU Reiterates Ban on Sign-Out Celebrations by Graduating Students

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) in Lapai, Niger State, has reaffirmed its ban on “sign-out” celebrations by graduating students.

The university’s Dean of Student Affairs, Professor M.S. Ewugi, issued a circular on September 12, 2025, reminding students of the earlier directive issued in February 2023, which prohibits all forms of sign-out activities within and outside the university campuses.

The banned activities include signing on clothes, reckless driving, inviting outsiders, and wearing flamboyant attire and consuming alcohol. Any student or group of students found violating these rules will face stiff sanctions.

This move is part of the university’s efforts to maintain discipline and ensure students graduate with decorum.

IBBU is not alone in this decision, as other Nigerian universities have also banned sign-out celebrations due to concerns about safety, discipline, and professionalism.
