Governor Radda Grants Full Autonomy to Katsina Local Governments

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has officially granted full financial and administrative autonomy to the 34 local government councils in Katsina State.
The announcement and fund release took place on Friday, September 12, 2025.
The governor released a total of ₦11.9 billion, allocating ₦350 million to each local government area.
The funds were directly disbursed to the councils, allowing them to manage their finances independently and eliminating state-level interference.
Governor Radda stated that the autonomy is intended to strengthen governance at the grassroots level. He also noted potential challenges related to financial management and personnel, assuring that the state government would work with local officials to address these issues.
The move follows the 2024 Supreme Court ruling affirming the financial independence of Nigeria’s 774 local councils. Katsina State’s action marks a significant step in implementing this judgment and upholding elected local government councils.
