Lagos to Host 2027 Intra-African Trade Fair

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has hailed the nomination of Lagos as the host city for the 2027 Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF).
The African Export-Import Bank, the African Union, and the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat made the announcement at the ongoing IATF 2025 in Algiers.
The nomination marks a significant milestone for Nigeria and the West African sub-region, underscoring Lagos’ pivotal role in Africa’s economic integration and the state’s status as a major commercial and financial hub. Sanwo-Olu expressed excitement and pride over the nomination, describing it as a reflection of Lagos’ resilience, strength, and commitment to economic growth.
The governor highlighted the state’s recent successes, including hosting GITEX, the global tech expo, and the upcoming E1 electric boat race, the first in Africa. He emphasized that hosting the IATF 2027 will boost Lagos’ efforts to become a global financial hub and accelerate Nigeria’s economic development.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose, noted that the fair is expected to attract over 1,600 exhibitors, 35,000 visitors, and generate billions of dollars in trade and investment deals.
She emphasized that hosting the IATF 2027 will position Lagos at the forefront of Africa’s trade future and reaffirm the state’s commitment to fostering regional collaboration, investment, and innovation.
The Lagos State Government, in partnership with the Federal Government, Afreximbank, the African Union, and the AfCFTA Secretariat, will commence preparations for the event, focusing on infrastructure development, logistics, security, and hospitality.
The nomination is seen as a testament to Africa’s confidence in Nigeria’s leadership and Lagos State’s readiness to deliver an impactful event that will leave a lasting legacy beyond 2027.
