Environment at Agodi Informed my Absence at Eid Prayers, Explains Ladoja
The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, recently shared the reasons behind his absence from the official state Eid Prayer Ground at Agodi Gate in Ibadan, dispelling rumors that his decision was politically motivated.
The former governor explained that his choice to stay away was due to the environment at Agodi, which he felt was not ideal for fully engaging with the sermon and concentrating during the prayers.
Oba Ladoja recalled attending the Agodi Eid Prayer Ground last in 2011, after which he decided to pray at the University of Ibadan’s (UI) Eid ground instead.
The quieter atmosphere at UI, which benefits from a larger security presence, allows worshippers to sit calmly and focus on the sermon without distraction. He made it clear that his absence wasn’t driven by political tensions but rather by a desire for a more peaceful and focused prayer experience.
However, the Otun Olubadan expressed optimism that changes could be made to improve the sound quality at the Agodi Prayer Ground. He mentioned that he had discussed this issue with relevant authorities, and with improvements in place, he would be happy to join the Agodi prayers again in future years.
Oba Ladoja’s remarks came during a visit to Governor Seyi Makinde’s private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan, shortly after the Eid-el-Fitri prayers at the Agodi Prayer Ground.
The visit was a warm moment of unity, as Oba Ladoja, accompanied by other dignitaries, joined Governor Makinde in a show of support and solidarity.
During the visit, Oba Ladoja conveyed a heartfelt message from the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin. The message urged both residents of Ibadan and Nigerians to remain patient, despite the challenges the country faces. Reflecting on the struggles people have endured, Oba Ladoja shared a hopeful sermon from an Imam, who had predicted that after difficult times, abundance and ease would follow.
The Otun Olubadan also expressed his confidence in the leadership of both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Makinde, trusting that their efforts would bring about a better future for the state and the country.
Governor Makinde, speaking to the gathering, shared some of the administration’s successes, including the ongoing payment of around N24 billion monthly to civil servants. He emphasized that the stability and progress the state has experienced so far were made possible by the unity and peace among the people. The governor’s words served as a reminder of the importance of collective effort in building a better future for all.
The visit highlighted the ongoing collaboration between Ibadan’s traditional leadership and political figures, underscoring their shared commitment to the city’s growth and a brighter future. This year’s Eid celebration served not only as a spiritual observance but also as a symbol of hope and unity, as leaders and citizens come together to work toward a prosperous Ibadan and Nigeria.
