Rivers State Local Government Elections Underway

The local government elections in Rivers State commenced on Saturday, with voting ongoing in various parts of the state.

In contrast to the usual hustle and bustle, the popular Slaughter area in Port Harcourt was quiet, with few people seen around.

In other areas, electoral activities were in full swing. Children were spotted playing football along Elekahia Road in Port Harcourt while voting took place elsewhere. In Ward 11 of Barako Community in Gokana Local Government Area, voters were casting their ballots.

The distribution of election materials for the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections began early in many parts of the state. At a registration centre in Elekahia, party agents and ad hoc personnel were present as materials were dispatched to polling units.

The elections aim to elect new leadership for the local government councils, and voters are exercising their right to choose their preferred candidates.

The outcome of the elections is expected to shape the future of the local governments and the state as a whole.
