Ondo Govt Bans Graduation Ceremonies for Nursery, JSS 3 Students

The Ondo State Government has announced a ban on graduation ceremonies for nursery and Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) students in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Igbekele Ajibefun, disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with private school proprietors across the 18 Local Government Areas of Ondo State, held in Akure.
Ajibefun explained that the decision was taken to reduce financial pressure on parents and to reposition the state’s education sector. He noted that such ceremonies often compel parents to incur unnecessary expenses, despite the young age of the pupils involved.
In addition to the ban, the ministry also prohibited schools from introducing new textbooks every academic session.
According to the commissioner, the measure is to ensure books can be reused by other students, thereby reducing costs for parents.
“The government is committed to supporting private school owners through deliberate policies aimed at improving standards and making education more affordable for parents,” Ajibefun stated.
He added that the new directives form part of broader reforms by the Ondo State Government to strengthen the education system and promote inclusivity.
