Group Launches Digital Platform to Tackle Violent Extremism Among Youth

A youth-focused organisation, Youth Against Violence Extremism (YAVE), has unveiled a new digital platform aimed at combating violent extremism among young people through innovation, creativity, and collaboration.

The initiative, launched on Tuesday in Abuja, seeks to provide a safe and engaging space for Nigerian youths across the 36 states of the federation to share ideas, build projects, and use digital storytelling as a tool for peacebuilding.

According to the organisers, the YAVE Digital Platform is designed as a vibrant, interactive hub that amplifies youth voices, fosters partnerships among young change-makers, and promotes alternative narratives against extremist ideologies.

Speaking at the launch, YAVE’s leadership emphasised that the platform would empower young Nigerians to use technology, creative expression, and community engagement in tackling the drivers of violent extremism.

“The future of peace in our society lies in the hands of young people. This platform is about giving them the tools, the space, and the confidence to shape narratives that build tolerance, unity, and sustainable peace,” the group stated.

The initiative also includes opportunities for training, mentorship, and project incubation, allowing participants to transform their ideas into real impact within their communities.

Stakeholders at the event described the project as timely, given the rising threats of radicalisation and violent extremism, particularly among vulnerable youth groups.

They stressed that empowering young people with digital tools and alternative means of expression would help build resilience against extremist recruitment.
