FG Launches Housing Fraud Reporting Portal, Project Monitoring System

The Federal Government has unveiled a digital portal to tackle fraudulent activities in housing estates across the country, allowing Nigerians to report scams, submit evidence, and monitor the progress of their complaints.

The initiative was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD), which said the move was part of ongoing reforms to protect citizens and ensure transparency in real estate transactions.

The Housing Fraud Reporting Portal, accessible via https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, provides users with a secure and user-friendly platform to file complaints on fraudulent activities within housing estates. According to the Ministry, every report submitted will be reviewed in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary.

“The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has launched a Housing Fraud Reporting web-based platform aimed at allowing citizens to report incidents of fraud in housing estates.

“The platform… enables users to submit complaints and share relevant evidence and information on fraudulent practices in the real estate sector,” the statement noted.

At the official launch, technical demonstrations were conducted by consultants Messrs Freestone Investments Limited and Messrs Prunedge Development Technologies Limited.

The Ministry emphasized that fraudulent practices in housing estates would no longer be tolerated, warning that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

In addition to the fraud portal, the Ministry also introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS), designed to strengthen oversight of housing projects.

The system allows for real-time monitoring of project progress, evaluation of contractor performance against key indicators, and provides a central repository for project documents, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, explained that the initiative aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which called for stronger regulation of the housing industry, certification of estate developers, and protection of citizens from fraudulent practices. He noted that the policy also emphasised the need for an efficient administrative, legal, and regulatory framework to oversee housing delivery and ensure that professionals in the built environment are duly registered.

Also speaking, Deputy Director and Head of the Ministry’s ICT Department, Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, said both platforms highlight the government’s commitment to protecting citizens and improving service delivery. He added that the fraud reporting system was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure effective tracking and follow-up of reported cases.

With the launch of the two platforms, the Ministry expressed optimism that Nigerians would enjoy greater transparency, accountability, and trust in housing transactions nationwide.
